I start this review with a question.
How many of us still hear or see a sparrow anymore, . . . .?
It’s a movie about a 23 year old guy, who just graduated from University with almost straight A’s and has $24,000 of college fund to put towards going to Harvard Law School.
He decides to leave it all, destroying his ID, giving the money to charity and hitting the road. He heads north to Alaska in the pursuit of freedom, a break from society and a new outlook on life.
Career as he says is a 20th century Invention and human race existed way before that.!
What he finds is friendship, people, relationships and hap piness,.. and ultimately Death.
He tries to live close to nature, he even starts hunting for a living. The scene where he kills a huge Moose but due to
in-experience it starts to decay,moves your heart.
Its real hard to believe this was written and Directed by.. wait for it.. yes its Sean Penn.!
There are a lot of lines in the movie which strikes a chord with us. Everything about the movie is awesome,be it casting,acting,cinematography or music.
Christopher is seeking happiness. Along the way he ignores the opportunity to achieve possible happiness because he is focused on finding the happiness that he believes in. He doesn’t stop and realise that happiness has always been around him, and his selfishness towards his own family that truly loves him is profound and sad at the same time.
When he thinks he has finally found happiness, but instead encounters loneliness, he realises something and writes it down…
“Happiness is only real when shared”
This movie slaps us right in the face points us how far from nature we have gone. The protogonist’s thoughts can be felt as I was in a similar feeling as I spend all my days staring at the Monitor day in and day out and needed a break badly. This movie raises a question of what is life? what is the purpose of it ? Is it just to graduate from college,get a job,get married, raise a family and die seeing your kids getting married?
Sorry folks I’m talking about everything except the movie,.. This is all I can say.. Please watch it to experience yourself.
When I started to watch the film, I just though this is another movie for the awards ( as it goes slow N all) but the climax endtitles brought goosebumps in me and I felt the jitters so heavy that I freaking shouted in the middle of the night, when I came to know Chris Mccandles was a real Guy and this was a true freaking Story.!
